About Mercure PHOTO

Hello,
My name is Jim Mercure and I am the owner of Mercure PHOTO.
I am a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology where I earned a B.F.A. in Advertising Photography and Digital Imaging.

Once I graduated I headed west and I arrived in Seattle at the dawn of the "Grunge" era and the "Digital Revolution". I was fortunate to meet Whit Alexander, the founder of the board game "Cranium" who hired me to work on Microsoft's Atlas. I spent the next three and a half years working on popular CD-ROM titles such as Encyclopedia of Baseball and Basketball as well as Encarta, Atlas, Road Map and CD+.

After a year as Photo Production Lead I was promoted to Lead Designer to work on a new project called CD+ and I created one of the first enhanced music CDs for Microsoft. Bill Gates dedicated 7 minutes of my work on CD+ with launch of Windows 95.

To promote this new technology to our target audience I got on the bus with this band for 6 weeks touring the major college campus of the West Coast. We had quite the entourage of famous musicians touring with us as well. Kris Novaselech formerly of Nirvana was the lead for his new band Sweet 75. Eddie Vedder wife's band "Hover Craft" were on tour with us as well.

After that project I went to work for Paul Allen's first e-commerce company Mercata.com were I was their Lead UI Designer. The business model for this company was based on the reverse auction, where the more people who bought an item like a television during a specific time period called a "Power Buy" the lower the price of that item would go.

I went on to work with world famous nature photographer Art Wolfe in the summer of 2004. This led to a student teaching position at his workshops. From there I went on to work for another startup company called Haydrian where I was their Senior UI Designer for XM3, which is an anti money laundering solution for banks and financial institutions.

If you would like to know more about me feel free to review my Linkedin profile or give send me an e-mail.

Best regards,
Jim
